Wellcome to Instituto de Bioingenieria
Institute of bioengineering (IB, http://bioingenieria.umh.es/) The Institute of Bioengineering (IB) begins the process of
Constitution with the creation of the University “Miguel Hernández” (UMH) in 1996, with the purpose of being a research
institute based on the potentialities of the academic staff of the UMH. It aims to promote high-quality and
multidisciplinary research, focusing efforts on the following areas: cell regenerative therapy, genetics of plant
development, cell physiology, biomaterials, biomedical instrumentation, telemedicine, structural and functional genomic,
toxicology and chemical safety, neurotoxicity and embryotoxicity, synthesis and design of organic molecules with
applications in nanotechnology and biotechnology, clinical trials and monitoring of drugs and other.
The IB research groups have a high international projection with the participation in European projects of genetics of plant
development, in projects of electronic applications in biomedicine, collaboration with the European Commission and the
European Chemical Agency in programs for assessment of safety and risk of chemicals in European regulations, participates in
projects and activities for the promotion and development of alternative testing methods without animal use, photovoltaic
and light emitting diodes applications of organic molecules and other projects. The IB presents an environment for
supporting and facilitating high quality R&D activities of the academic university members.
In addition to the research activity, it is important to highlight the training work carried out by the Institute. Most of
the IB researchers collaborate in the different degrees taught by the UMH, in the Master in Biotechnology and Bioengineering
and in the Doctoral Program in Bioengineering.
