Nuestras \u00e1reas de investigaci\u00f3n incluyen el control gen\u00e9tico de la organog\u00e9nesis en general y el de las hojas en particular, y el desarrollo de t\u00e9cnicas y plataformas para la caracterizaci\u00f3n gen\u00e9tica de organismos modelo. La mayor parte de nuestro trabajo se lleva a cabo en Arabidopsis thaliana.<\/span><br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>L\u00cdNEAS DE INVESTIGACI\u00d3N<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>L\u00ednea 1: An\u00e1lisis gen\u00e9tico y molecular del desarrollo de las hojas en Arabidopsis thaliana, con el objetivo de identificar, estudiar y manipular los genes que rigen la arquitectura de las hojas en las plantas<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Las hojas de las plantas son los mejores paneles solares jam\u00e1s construidos, y tambi\u00e9n funcionan bien como purificadores de aire y f\u00e1bricas de alimentos. Las hojas atrapan eficazmente la luz solar, eliminan el di\u00f3xido de carbono del aire y son la fuente \u00faltima de la mayor parte del ox\u00edgeno que respiramos y de los alimentos que comemos. Entender c\u00f3mo se fabrica una hoja es importante por varias razones, entre ellas conocer la biolog\u00eda y la evoluci\u00f3n de un \u00f3rgano multicelular sin equivalentes en el reino animal, as\u00ed como identificar -y eventualmente manipular, para aumentar el rendimiento de los cultivos- las claves gen\u00e9ticas, ambientales y hormonales que determinan su arquitectura y funci\u00f3n finales.<\/span><br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>L\u00ednea 2: Gen\u00f3mica estructural y funcional. Mapeo y genotipado de genes de alto rendimiento<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Para arrojar luz sobre la fabricaci\u00f3n de las hojas de las plantas, en 1993 iniciamos un intento de saturar el genoma de la planta modelo Arabidopsis thaliana con mutaciones viables que causan una morfolog\u00eda anormal de las hojas. Utilizando un m\u00e9todo de mapeo de genes de alto rendimiento que desarrollamos, clonamos m\u00e1s de 50 de los genes identificados por la mutaci\u00f3n. Our areas of research include the genetic control of organogenesis in general and that of leaves in particular, and the development of techniques and platforms for the genetic characterization of model organisms. Most of our work is carried out on Arabidopsis thaliana.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h4><strong>RESEARCH LINES<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Line 1:\u00a0Genetic and molecular analysis of leaf development in Arabidopsis thaliana, with the objective of identifying, studying and manipulating the genes that govern the architecture of leaves in plants<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Plant leaves are the best solar panels ever built, and they also perform well as air purifiers and food factories. Leaves efficiently trap sunlight, remove carbon dioxide from the air, and are the ultimate source of most of the oxygen that we breathe and of the food that we eat. Understanding how a leaf is made is important for several reasons, which include gaining knowledge of the biology and evolution of a multicellular organ with no equivalents in the animal kingdom as well as identifying \u2014and eventually manipulating, to increase crop yield\u2014 the genetic, environmental, and hormonal cues that determine its final architecture and function.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Line 2:\u00a0Structural and functional genomics. High-throughput gene mapping and genotyping<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">To shed light on the making of plant leaves, in 1993 we initiated an attempt to saturate the genome of the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana with viable mutations that cause abnormal leaf morphology. Using a high-throughput gene mapping method that we developed, we cloned more than 50 of the genes identified by mutation.
