The Institute for Bioengineering invites you next Tuesday 24\/09\/2024 at 12:00, in the auditorium of the IB, to the seminar entitled \u201cCognitive adventures of single neurons in the human medial temporal lobe\u201d given by Dr. Florian Mormann from the University Hospital, Department of Epileptology University of Bonn, Germany and organized by Prof. Eduardo Fern\u00e1ndez Jover (IB-UMH).<\/p>\n
Dr. Mormann is specialized in cognitive neurophysiology, with a focus on the neurobiology of perception and memory. His work explores neural behavior in the medial temporal lobe to understand how conscious perceptions are transformed into episodic memory traces. In addition, in the field of clinical neurophysiology, he investigates the pathophysiological mechanisms leading to the onset of epileptic seizures, focusing on microscopic phenomena such as high frequency oscillations, micro-seizures, and cellular and neural network behavior.<\/p>\n
Notable publications include studies such as \u201cDistinct neuronal representation of small and large numbers in the human medial temporal lobe\u201d in Nature Human Behaviour and \u201cHow coupled slow oscillations, spindles and ripples c\u00bfoordinate neuronal processing and communication during human sleep\u201d in Nature Neuroscience (2023).<\/p>\n
